Trade-in

Trade-In Valuation

Two numbers matter when you trade. What the car you are buying costs, and what the one you are driving is worth. This is the second one.

Trading In Your Vehicle

A trade-in is one of the simplest ways to reduce what you owe on a new purchase. Two numbers matter: what your car is worth, and how much of that goes toward your new Cadillac.

How Trade-In Value Is Determined

  • Year, make, model, trim, and mileage
  • Overall condition, interior and exterior
  • Service history and whether records are complete
  • Current market demand and comparable sales
  • Any outstanding balance or lien on the vehicle

Reducing Loan Balance

If you still owe money on the vehicle you are trading, the difference between the payoff amount and the trade-in value is either:

  • Negative equity — rolled into the new loan, increasing what you finance
  • Positive equity — coming back to you as a down payment or cheque

Before You Come In

  • Gather service records and the title or registration
  • Note the VIN and confirm the odometer reading
  • Remove personal belongings and factory reset any electronics

Get an Appraisal

An in-person appraisal gives you a firm number. Bring the vehicle, the title, and any service records.

01What is it worth?

Get a real number

Tell Ed the car and how it has been kept, and he comes back with a figure rather than a range. No obligation, and it does not commit you to anything.

A photograph of each side helps more than anything else — attach them when Ed replies, or bring the car in and it is fifteen minutes.

Or do it in a minute

Read the year, the mileage and the condition down the phone and you will have a working figure before you hang up.
